Fr. Paul is proud to be from a large Irish family and is blessed to have his mother with him still, as she prepares to celebrate her 90th birthday this November. His greatest ambition is to be a Catholic priest and with a very few stresses along the way, it has been a very wonderful life... so far. Top of page
I was born in a small town, in the old province of Las Villas, Cuba, to a Christian family, very much committed to the Church – thanks be to God. Since my early childhood I was involved in community affairs, but never thought of becoming a priest. I graduated from high school, and at the age of 19, seeing the spiritual need of the people and the scarce number of ministers, I began to consider the possibility of becoming a priest. Went through mandatory military service, and after having attended the university for a year I cut my studies short to enter the “San Carlos and San Ambrosio” Seminary in Havana. I finished my studies at the “Universidad Pontificia de México” and returned to Cuba hoping to work for my people. I was ordained a deacon and then a priest at the Diocese of Santa Clara, in Cuba. Three years later I decided to come to the United States because of the difficult political situation in Cuba. I worked in the Archdiocese of Miami for a time, but being aware of the need for Hispanic priests in the Diocese of Orlando I asked Monsignor Wenski to be incorporated to it. My first assignment was at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish, in Kissimmee. Since September, 2006 I am serving the family of St. John Vianney and, by the grace of God. I do hope to be able to serve the people of God in Orlando joyfully and readily for the glory and honor of our God. May He bless you always! His initial assignments were as Formation Director and Pastoral Coordinator of Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary from 1994 to 2000. Rex plays Tennis, loves Basketball, the sport he played as a youth and throughout his years in the seminary, and is a Boston Red Sox fan. Although shy in the beginning, Fr. Rex loves to listen and to talk to people. He hopes to “continue living in the presence of God in my ministry here at St. John Vianney Parish.” Top of page
